Most commons causes
Reading Pane is turned off
If you are running Office 365 version 2002 or later, please make sure you have Reading Pane turned on or open email to a separate window. Microsoft has changed the visibility rules of add-ins since version 2002.
(If your HoxHunt button is displayed greyed out / inactive, please check out: Hoxhunt button is greyed out or it sometimes goes missing )
Metered connection feature is turned on
Outlook add-ins (like Hoxhunt) may go missing if Metered connection is turned on for your current network connection. For example, if you are using a mobile hotspot, Metered connection might be enabled to reduce data transfer amounts. This add-in behaviour is by Microsoft's design.
Make sure to disable Metered connection in your network connection settings.
Optional Connected Experiences is turned off
Make sure you have enabled Optional Connected Experiences in File > Office Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings (see Connected Experiences in Office). If you are unable to change the setting, it is managed by your Administrator (please contact your IT team and refer to this MS article). (Connected Experiences were introduced in Office 365 ProPlus version 1904 and Office for Mac version 16.28.) See also Overview of optional connected experiences in Office.
UPDATE: Starting from Monthly Channels version 2008 (build 13127.20296) and Semi Annual Channels released in early January 2021, Optional Connected Experiences are not anymore required to be enabled to have Admin-managed Outlook add-ins displayed.

Check which mailbox you currently have selected
Outlook add-ins are designed to activate in the user's main mailbox only. Add-ins do not activate in shared mailboxes, folders from other user's mailboxes opened with delegate access, archive mailboxes, or public folders.
Check you have a suitable email account
The Outlook client must be connected to an Exchange server or Microsoft 365 using a direct connection. When configuring the client, the user must choose an Exchange, Microsoft 365, or Outlook.com account type. If the client is configured to connect with POP3 or IMAP, add-ins will not load.
Check if Hoxhunt add-in has been deployed to you
If you are running Office add-in version of Hoxhunt button, make sure Hoxhunt add-in is listed in Home > Manage Add-ins > Admin-managed.
If you are running COM add-in version of Hoxhunt button, make sure Hoxhunt add-in is listed in File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins. Also check Disabled Add-ins.
If you are unable to locate Hoxhunt add-in in either location, please check next step.
Uncommon causes
Office add-ins have been disabled by your Administrator
Check if you can locate Store icon, Manage Add-ins icon or Get Add-ins icon in Outlook desktop application, Outlook on the Web and Outlook Mobile App. If any are missing, your organization might have disabled all Office add-ins. Please check this KB article from Microsoft for further information and contact your IT team.
Office Cache has been corrupted
In some rare cases Outlook is unable to sync the user profile settings from M365 or Exchange server. You can try clearing the Office cache by check this article and this article.
"Do not save unencrypted files to disk" is turned off
Please ask your IT team if "Do not save unencrypted files to disk" has been set to value enabled
, in IE's GPO settings, The correct value is not configured
or 0
.
You have Outlook 2013
If you are still using Outlook 2013, Hoxhunt button will show at the bottom of the Outlook client window, not at the top like in newer Outlook versions.
Outlook is unable to load any Office add-ins
1. Open Windows Event Viewer.
2. Navigate to Windows logs > Application.
3. Close Outlook and relaunch it.
4. Refresh the Event Viewer view.
5. Look for a reasonably recent event for which the Event ID equals 63, which represents Outlook downloading a manifest from an Exchange Server.
If Outlook successfully read the manifest, the logged event should have the following description:
The Exchange web service request GetAppManifests succeeded.
If Outlook failed to read the manifest, the logged event is similar to the following:
The Exchange web service request GetAppManifests failed. The error code is 0.
HTTP Response Code: 403
Additional Error Message:
An unknown internal error occurred. The error code is 80004005
6. If you see a similar error, close Outlook.
7. Empty the following temp folder: %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\WEF\
8. Relaunch Outlook and see if Hoxhunt add-in becomes available.

You have recently switched to New Outlook for Mac
Please check this separate KB article for assistance: Hoxhunt add-in missing from New Outlook for Mac
New Outlook for Mac has a completely new simplistic look. For example, add-ins are not visible in the toolbar by default. So far, Hoxhunt is aware of the following issues occurring for New Outlook for Mac users:
Issue 1:
- Hoxhunt and its customer have noticed that all your existing Outlook add-ins might go missing. This is a bug in New Outlook for Mac, and it has been reported to occur at least in version 16.58.
Issue 2:
- Hoxhunt add-in is missing from Outlook for Mac after switching to the new UI. Relaunching Outlook doesn't fix the problem.
In either case, please follow these steps:
1. Restart Outlook
2. Then click on the See more items (...) button in the ribbon of the email client and try to locate Hoxhunt's button from the list.
Option 1: You can see the Hoxhunt button on the list
3. If you can see the Hoxhunt button in the list, you can pin the Hoxhunt button to your toolbar by selecting See more items (...) > Customize toolbar... and drag the Hoxhunt button to the toolbar.
(More information on how to customise your toolbar: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/customize-your-toolbar-in-the-new-outlook-for-mac-9add8444-1094-46ee-a540-bcf1d82d98a3)
Option 2: You can still not see the Hoxhunt button on the list
4. If the Hoxhunt button is still not visible, restart Outlook and try again.
5. If the Hoxhunt is still not visible after restarting Outlook, restart your Mac and try again.
New Outlook for Mac may still contain some experience-breaking bugs. Microsoft is actively developing and improving the user experience, and you can monitor the development and known issues here:

Issue with admin task to deploy the button
If you are unable to locate Hoxhunt button in Outlook on the Web (OWA) or Outlook Progressive Web Application (PWA), there is most likely something wrong in the deployment of the Hoxhunt button. Deployment is done by your IT support so please contact them for further assistance.
The button your organization is using does not support Outlook on the Web
Another possibility is that your organization has deployed a stand-alone installation of the Hoxhunt button for your desktop Outlook only. In this case the button is not available in OWA or PWA. Read more: Troubleshooting stand-alone Hoxhunt Outlook COM add-in
Are you using Outlook on the Web with a mobile device?

Most commons causes
Check if you have multiple email accounts added to Outlook
The Hoxhunt add-in is only available to interact with mail items in the mailbox of an account it has been distributed to. If there are multiple accounts present, please verify that the email you're trying to report has been sent to the right mailbox.
The add-in is not available to interact with for other mailboxes than it has been distributed to. (For example. personal mailboxes)
If all else fails
On iOS, remove Outlook for iOS and re-install it. This clears the application cache, after which Hoxhunt add-in should appear.
On Android, force close Outlook for Android, clear the application cache in System preferences, and re-launch Outlook. Hoxhunt add-in should appear.
Hoxhunt button is missing from my Outlook on Desktop 2010 (Windows)
If you are unable to locate Hoxhunt button in Outlook 2010, there is either something wrong in the distribution of the Hoxhunt button or the add-in has been disabled by Outlook.
First make sure the Hoxhunt button has not been disabled in File > Options > Add-ins. From the Manage dropdown list at the bottom select COM Add-ins and click Go... Make sure the checkbox next to Hoxhunt Report add-in has been ticked.
If the above didn't solve the problem, then the issue may be in distribution. Distribution is done by your IT support so please contact them for further assistance.
