Overview
Hoxhunt button is available in different types. Depending on the email infrastructure your organization has, you have been distributed with at least one of the button types.
NOTE: The availability of the Hoxhunt button across different email clients may vary.
In certain troubleshooting scenarios it's important to identify which type of the Hoxhunt button you have installed. After you have identified the type you have installed, check the troubleshooting steps specific to that version type.
Identifying installed Hoxhunt button
When you click the Hoxhunt button on a real phishing email (not sent by Hoxhunt), the button behavior will give you an indication of which Hoxhunt button you have installed.
Outlook customers
Office add-in
The Office add-in is the default button type for most Outlook clients and is used by the majority of Hoxhunt customers. When you click the Hoxhunt button on an email that was not sent by Hoxhunt in Outlook on Desktop, Outlook on the Web or Outlook on Mobile, the following side pane will open on right-hand side of your Outlook:
When you click the Hoxhunt button on an email sent by Hoxhunt, a similar side pane will appear but with less content.
COM add-in
The COM add-in is mainly used in closed on-premises exchange environments or in older Outlook clients (2010 and older), that do not support the default Hoxhunt Office add-in. It is also only available for Windows. When you click the Hoxhunt button in Outlook on Desktop, the following dialog (or similar) will open:
TIP: If you are running Windows Outlook 2010 or older, you are using COM add-in.

Option 1:
If you are running Outlook 2013 or later, you may have either Office add-in or COM add-in version of the Hoxhunt button. You can easily identify which one you have.
- Open your desktop version of Outlook.
- Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
- Under Manage select COM add-ins or Disabled items and then click Go...
- If you can see Hoxhunt Report add-in listed, you have Hoxhunt COM add-in.
Option 2:
- Open your desktop version of Outlook.
- In the Ribbon, click Get add-ins+.
- If you can see Hoxhunt Report add-in listed, you have Hoxhunt Office add-in.
Gmail customers
Google Workspace add-on
The Google Workspace add-on is the default button type for all Gmail customers and has been in use since early 2022. If you have joined Hoxhunt after January 2022, you are likely using the Hoxhunt's Google Workspace Add-on. The Google Workspace Add-on is available in Gmail on Mobile and in the side-panel at Gmail.com in your desktop web browser.
When you click the Hoxhunt button at Gmail.com or Gmail on Mobile, the following dialog will open:
Private Gmail Add-on
The Private Gmail add-on was the most commonly used button for Gmail up until 2022. If you have joined Hoxhunt before 2022, you might still have the Private Gmail add-on in use.
Hoxhunt is collaborating with its customers to move everyone to the new Google Workspace add-on.
When you click the Hoxhunt button at Gmail.com or Gmail on Mobile, the following dialog will open:
Google Chrome Extension
The Google Chrome Extension is available to a few select customers and has been in use since September 2022.
The button is available in Gmail via the desktop Chrome browser by hovering over an email in a mailbox or after having opened an email:
When you click the Hoxhunt button at Gmail.com, the following dialog will open:
