Identifying your Hoxhunt button type

Hoxhunt button is available in different types. Depending on the email infrastructure your organization has, you have been distributed with at least one of the button types.

NOTE: The availability of the Hoxhunt button across different email clients may vary.

In certain troubleshooting scenarios it's important to identify which type of the Hoxhunt button you have installed. After you have identified the type you have installed, check the troubleshooting steps specific to that button type.

I'm using Outlook

When you click your Hoxhunt button on any non-Hoxhunt email, the button's behavior will tell which Hoxhunt button type you have.

Button type 1: Office add-in

The Office add-in is the default button type for most Outlook clients. It is used by the majority of Hoxhunt customers.

When you click the Hoxhunt button on an email that was not sent by Hoxhunt, the following side pane will open:

When you click the Hoxhunt button on an email sent by Hoxhunt, a similar side pane will appear but with less content.

Button type 2: COM add-in

The COM add-in is mainly used in restricted on-premises Exchange environments or with older Outlook clients (2010 and older). This button type is also only available in Windows desktop Outlook.

When you click the Hoxhunt button on an email that was not sent by Hoxhunt, the following side pane will open:

Still not sure? Determine your Hoxhunt button type via desktop Outlook client

Option 1:

If you are running Outlook 2013 or later, you may have either Office add-in or COM add-in version of the Hoxhunt button. You can easily identify which one you have.

  1. Open your desktop version of Outlook.
  2. Go to File > Options > Add-ins.
  3. Under Manage select COM add-ins or Disabled items and then click Go...
  4. If you see Hoxhunt Report add-in listed, you have Hoxhunt COM add-in.

Option 2:

  1. Open your desktop version of Outlook.
  2. In the Ribbon, click Get add-ins+.
  3. If you see Report this email add-in listed, you have Hoxhunt Office add-in.

I'm using Gmail

Button type 1: Google Workspace add-on

The Google Workspace add-on is the default button type for all Gmail customers and has been in use since early 2022. If you have joined Hoxhunt after January 2022, you are likely using this button type.

The Google Workspace Add-on is available in Gmail on Mobile and in the side panel at gmail.com in your desktop web browser.
