Hoxhunt phishing simulation emails and messages include different fail mechanisms in which you can "fall for" the phishing test. These methods include, but are not limited to:
1. Fail links located in the simulation email or message (either as a clickable URL or embedded into a button)
2. Fake attachments (a link hidden in the image of an attachment)
3. Real attachments (a link hidden in the attachment)
When you interact with these elements, you fail the phishing test.
During technical testing you will be asked to do so intentionally, so we can test that nothing is blocking the fail links. Hoxhunt uses hundreds of domains in the uniquely generated fail link URLs to offer variety and challenge for the users during the phishing training. These domains and URLs simulate the types of domains and URLs used in real phishing attacks, so they might sometimes get blocked by your network security solutions.
When fail link can be accessed
When everything is working as it should, the end user will be redirected to the "Oops!" landing page as soon as they fail the simulation (e.g. clicking the fail link):
When fail link is blocked
When end user's access to the fail link is interrupted by a firewall, proxy or another network security solution, they are presented with a browser-specific generic error message:
The connection was reset.
Try:
- Checking the connection
- Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_RESETERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVEDIn the above case, user is blocked from engaging with the link due to a web filter, proxy, link scanner or a similar security solution. Depending on your technical solution, the error message may also be similar to:
"Sorry, you don't have permission to access this link"
"Access to this site is blocked due to company policy"
To solve these blocked fail link situations, your IT department admin should:
- Determine the technical solution is blocking access to the urls
- Determine what type of allowlisting the technical solution allows
- Refer to: Generic guidelines for allowlisting link scanners, proxies and firewalls
When fail link is expired
Sometimes end users are redirecred to Login link has expired page when they click on a fail link.
