Ensuring mail delivery in Outlook (M365, hybrid and on-premise Exchange)

Overview

The first step of the technical implementation is to ensure mail delivery, i.e. to make sure that the Hoxhunt training emails reach your employees' inboxes. How the implementation is done will depend on your email environment and we provide separate guides below, depending on your email environment.

Please note that the technical configuration needed is dependent on where your MX record is pointing to, so if you already know that changes will be happening in the future and your MX record will be pointing somewhere else in the future, please reach out to your Hoxhunt Onboarding Manager or our Support team at support@hoxhunt.com for assistance on how to ensure mail delivery in your situation.

The main cause for this distinction is the Secure by Default and Advanced Delivery features Microsoft rolled out during 2021. You can read more here:

Introducing Secure by Default and Advanced Delivery for Hoxhunt customers

Option 1: Ensuring mail delivery when your MX record points to M365

When your MX record points to M365 (the hostname ends with .mail.protection.outlook.com), either as your default setup or because Hoxhunt is using for example a Partner Receive Connector to bypass 3rd party mail filtering systems, you should implement the email delivery configuration as outlined here:

Ensuring mail delivery when your MX record points to M365

Option 2: Ensuring mail delivery when your MX record points elsewhere

When your MX record doesn't point to M365, but a mail filtering system or an on-premise Exchange Server, you should implement the email delivery configuration as outlined here:

Ensuring mail delivery when your MX record does not point to M365
